So whiile I am in the process of putting my 1982 Maxim back together and getting it titled I stumbled upon a 1982 550 Seca...the guy has it in his garage and just didn't want it anymore...I called him up and he says...

    "$300 and it's yours kid..."

So yeah, I am pretty stoked...

Here are some more pics of the thing...got it running this morning...seems it might have a little valve noise but I am not sure...also there is like a whistle/ringing sound that I can't quite locate...have heard that the YICS fins ring but this seems a little weird for that...maybe the pod filters?

    Anyway, here it is... :D

Wow that bike cleaned up pretty nice!! And it runs thats a heck of a deal. The pods will def have a different sound than a stock box..

Yeah, I figured they'd have a sharper intake sound...and I guess they can account for the whistle...but I am just overly cautious right now. I am hearing what I believe is some cam chain slap...I need to pull the adjuster and clean it, and readjust everything...I am going to be pulling off the exhaust to de-rust it and then paint it up with some exhaust paint...figure on trying to make this bike look at least halfway decent...

Another amazing deal for the annals of the XJ-Files.

Three bills for a running pretty-good and not too bad looking; either!

Wow great find...some people would pay 3 bills just for the bodywork. Couple words of caution, if you decide to do some really spirited canyon riding watch the case savers. They will hit the ground first and lift the front end up. Second is how old are the Uni filters on the bike?? Foam does not age well but usually doesnt do much damage until it's too late and the foam isn't there to filter out the air.

Great find I wish I could come up on something like that!!

The 550 has a "manual" cam chain adjuster, gotta position the crankshaft, loosen the locknut, then the bolt, then listen for the click (tap on the adjuster housing from the other side in case it's "stuck") then retorque the bolt, then retorque the nut. I use all 1/4" drive tools since the torque required is so light. 550 Secas are a barrel of monkeys!
