Lowering Xj700

I am starting a Bobber project on my XJ700, and I want to lower it about two inches. I want to keep the suspension but I am unsure of the best way to do this. I cant seem to find smaller shocks that fit it. I was thinking of using lowering blocks but would rather use smaller stiffer shocks. Any help?

Also, how much of an issue is it changing the angle on the drive shaft that much?

search in forums for shocks being cut there are a few posts about lowering. they say the disassembled the shock and cut the spring and reassembled and they say it works good.. going to do it to my seca sometime seeing how im a tad short..

 

You can chop your shocks or go with something smaller. I decided to mount a pair from a Suzuki Savage. There are some pics here:

The Savage shocks lowered the the rear about 2-3" and give the bike a nice ride. I was originally a little worried that they might be too soft but they're quite stiff and having the bike lower seems to give it a more "planted" feel. I guess because of the lower centre of gravity...

 

I bought a set of 10.5 inch shocks on eBay to lower my chopper and it did the trick with no mods. The only issue I had was with tire clearance on bumps and my right turn signal stem. The tire actually rubbed through the wiring and blew my main fuse. After a small mod to the stem, no more rubbing.

 

Thanks guys, I was having trouble finding shocks that fit the mountings correctly. Hopefully this will work and I'll be able to firmly plant when I stop now.
