    I'm thinking the PO must have inadvertantly swapped the clutch and kickstand lines somewhere. Kickstand down, switch closed..bike thinks clutch...

    Runs better now. Still has an occasional miss on one cylinder and at idle slows down and dies. I'll take what progress I can though!

    took the front wheel off, dropped it off at my tire guy for a new Dunlop 404. Changed the oil & filter, changed the plugs.
