I would but this bike only has 6200 miles on it. Just some lube and it’s just fine. Wish instead of individual ball bearings they could have used...
Fork seals on the 81 XJ650H , onto the brakes next!
Ok My eyesight is not so good any more but I managed to get one side apart by using my small 3/8" impact. Once apart I could see on part #9 it has...
Ok guys I’m working on my 650 today and my problem is #9 on the diagram will not come loose. The end inside is not hexed so I can get down there...
Maybe put up on the center stand and place a straightedge on the rear wheel up to the front and see if the alignment is off. There has to be a way...
There was a guy up in St Cloud named PainterD not sure if he is around but you could PM him.
I'm in St Paul and I have a set of carb sync vacuum gauges
I am going to start working on that bike tonight and get it going. Should be running by next weekend so I can put it on Craigs List Mpls
In Minnesota we have no fault insurance which you turn medical claims into your insurance company and they deal with the other insurance company...
The integrity of the engine is good seal on all cylinders. If there are compression issues there will be tuning and scyncing issues.
There are some engine out of frame restoration/custom jobs here that blow me away on the time and money invested. Love to see the bikes coming...
Compression numbers may help understand the condition of the engine. Low compression on a couple of cylinders won't help matters much either.
These bikes require a lot of re commissioning work which takes time and money. I have found that if you go through all that you better plan on...
I have a real low mile 750 Maxim with about 7000 miles on the clock that needs some TLC to get running. I'm in St Paul Mn just north of you couple...
I have had pads that are so hard they just would not seat in. Going to a new set of pads can make a huge difference if there a softer material and...
Float height can be checked wet. The proper setting can be difference between running right or too high can make it rich or too low and that be lean.
Your problem is with the floats, needles and seats not your main jet needle on the bottom of the piston slides.
The carb cleaning and inspection process is way easier than the removal and installation. There are many pictures and informational reading...
That should seal it I would think. I use the Grey gasket maker stuff. Seems alittle tougher than the blue but that should be just fine.
Feel around the head with it running to see if you feel air blowing out. Watch those head pipes so you don't get burn't.
Is it possible that engine has so much blow by it pumping a bunch of oil into the air box and when the bike sits it drains out onto the floor?...
I would leave the bottom end alone for now. Just concentrate on the one pistion where the valve broke. If it only has a few dings in the top it...
If the valve timing were that far off that bike would barely run if at all. For some reason your timing chain skipped on the intake cam causing...
Pictures would be nice to see if we can pick anything out.
I will double check
I believe those are Mikuni carbs. Double check the fit of the seats and the o'rings to make sure they are a snug fit. The o'rings can leak with...
http://www.threadtoolsupply.com/M8x125-lh-professional-helical-insert-repair-kit.html These guys have a kit but it would be nice to get what I...
Just an FYI Len does not have these.
I found a heli coil kit for $112.64 plus shipping since I only need one is anyone interested in the set once I fix mine. There will be 5 inserts...
Now to find a vendor that has one
Looks like mine is actually M8 1.25 pitch left hand threads.
I saw something on this recently and I can't seem to find it. In any case this mirror has left hand threads and I need to heli coil the right hand...
The gas here is bad stuff. There is so much ethanol in it moisture is attracted and the gas goes bad in no time. That's why you see Green jets...
I let the crotch rocket guys riding along on their back tire blow by me on the freeway and I just wave at them.
The carbs can get clogged up again because you need to run the bike long enough to get stabilized fuel in the carbs. I put two cycle gas in mine...
I did stuff like that too, but as you get older you tend to think how long it takes to heal road rash. No Thanks
It seems weird the throttle screw wont do anything when he backs it out. Something is not closing off all the way
Might have to bench sync because one or two of the throttle blades are open too far causing a high idle condition. Even with using a needle...
Sometimes its better just to keep the buddy's for beer and let dudes that do carbs do their thing on them. Not saying the carb dudes don't drink...
He definitely knows his stuff that's for sure!
If you have time. Clean and lube the speedo drive. Just might save you a headache in the future.
Good to know
Going that fast on a thirty plus old bike could be not so good if a brake would delaminate or a wheel bearing were to crap out. Please consider...
Good you are looking after them. Too many take stopping power is not high on the priority list and bad things can happen if your brakes are not...
Was the bike running ok then the carbs started leaking? Or was it sitting then started leaking when you went to start it up from sitting? Plus...
The ones under the head in the center are hard to see sometimes and get overlooked
Maybe you left the petcock on prime and gas filled the crankcase and overflowed all over the floor. See if all the gas is gone.
I guess if you need me to snap a picture without ripping into my bike too much I could do that.
This might even help more.
Think this will help. See image
