Was listening to ladys line today while in the tractor, and there was someone with a honda 250 enduro for 500, so i called and it was an older gent with a 1975 xl250 14K miles, and it runs. so i went there, was in decent shape, had a luggage rack, new tires, and hadnt been started in a month, started up nice, seemed doggy but after working on xj's im not afraid to tackle it... and it is really easy to do... I read through the whole owners manual, and i LOVE how it actually tells you how to work on the bike... and i also love how simple the bike is- to flush out the front forks, just loosen the bolts on bottom of tube, jump on the bike, squeeze out all te oil, then fill the forks with ATF fluid... oil filter is just a screen, to oil the air filter you just soak it in 90 weight and wring it out.. to oil the chain- throw on good engine oil... it's so simple... it show how to adjust the valves and looks easy, i'm going to do that.. and experience points for the first time...

the bike just needs a good going through and clean and it will be ready for the roads or trails, just gotta figure out a way to explain this to my parents... i'll post up pics around wednesday or so- i'm going up north this weekend..

does anyone know a way to pop dents without hurting the paint? I'm going to try pumping air into the tank..

i'd leave the dents in the tank. i'd plan on putting some more in it.

congrats, you lucky SOB. you REALLY need to bring that bike to the UP.

edit: for the air filter, i've read you don't want to wring them out - just squeeze. if you wring it (twist) you can tear it

well- I broke my camera the same time i broke my uncles raptor 700... had ato take a snowmobile trail back to rockland and had to go around a fence...there were 2 ways around.. through a mud hole or through the woods... well thre was a 1" sapplind blocking the woods path so my dumb uncle said it ws blocked, so i went full bore through the mudd hole, which ended up being about 2 feet deep and rocky... hit teh handle bars hard and so did my camera, and the rear brake rotor got tweaked and whopped out the rear brake pads...

but here's a pic of what it looks like- and it is in that good of condition minus a small dent in the tank

My clymer cb350 (1974) book says to make a 350 just swap the top end and the 350 pistons fit on the 250 rods. Maybe the xl is the same way and you can bump it up when it starts smoking.

Nice find Schooter, well worth 500. Did you get a title with it also? That would be a great bike for short trips to work then trails on the way home.
