I posted this in Technical as well but Modifications seems to get more traffic!!

Ok. So I took the bike apart about 2 years ago. I've been slowly putting it back together as I find the parts and money. I took a lot of pics and made a fair number of diagrams for the more complex parts. I have to say I have never been this lost before.

The carb boots that go between the carb and motor will not align. I know for a fact the vacuum nipples were all pointing up when I disassembled. I did not mark the boots 1-4 as I did not see the need:) Now here I 'am, in search of knowledge. I can get them all lined up if 1 of 4 up side down??? Nothing has changed, these are the boots that came off the bike......I know there is a difference between the Non-YCIS(me) and YCIS models.......I will add pics later if needed....I have tried every possible combination and it is eluding me. The boot with the vacuum line for the fuel valve is #3 right? That is from left the right facing forward.

    Any Ideas??

If yours are non yics, here's what you do:
    1. Set the flat on a table with all stems pointing toward the other end of the table. Doesn't matter what order at this moment.

    2. Notice that there are two types... 1 pair of each. What are the pairs? Look close at the carb opening in relation to the cyl head opening-- two of the are angle slightly to the right, the other two to the left. Separate them by the pairs

    3. Now, here's where they go-- the two that have carb openings to the right are for cyl 1 & 2. The pair with the carb openings to the left are for cyl 3 & 4.

Simply, the holes into the head are wider than the width of the carbs, so they step down from head width to carb width.

If you need more help with that, we're here
