1981 xj550 vin number

    I have just finished rebuilding an '81 xj550 basket case. I cannot register the bike because part of the vin sticker is missing. I have most of the vin number JYA5K5???BA005938. I think the check digit is 0 but not sure if it is the 8th or 9th digit.

    on my 82 the vin is stamped on the frame at the steering head opposite where the sticker is but its only 9 digits long are you sure that ba005938 isn't the hole number?
