I just purchased my first bike, a 1981 Yamaha xj650 maxim. The bike came with a vetter windjammer kit that is huge and really not in my style, but for the price I can't complain. I plan on removing it and purchasing a stock (or stock looking) headlight and front turn signal kit, but first thing first. I have an air horn container that is bolted/attached to the fairing as well as a bundle of wires (in a small pouch) that are tucked in behind the fairing. Does anyone have recommendations for what I could do with the horn/wiring if and when I get around to mounting a traditional headlight? Thanks!

i wrapped mine up neatly in an old intertube rubber split open. then used zips to hold it all bundled. and because it is black you can hardly tell it is there.

So I've had the bike going a few weeks now and am starting to look into parts. How would one go about mounting turn signals like this:

My bike has a vetter fairing kit and is missing front turn signals and headlight so my goal is to put some on. Suggestions are welcome. Do those mounts bolt onto anything in particular? I know I need to connect a headlight and bucket to fork mounts but I'm pretty clueless. Thanks ahead of time.

I have a 1985 Yamaha XJ700. My gauges stopped working so I decided to go with the chopper look and remove them and relocated my ignition to under the side of my tank. Everything was a success besides now my headlight and electric start won't work. When I turn the key I'm getting power because my blinkers and tail light come on but no headlight and when I try to crank it it won't even try to turn over. Looking for some pointers. I'm thinking there's loss in connection from when I removed the gauges and the indicater. There was a small cluster which had fuses mounted in it. I wanted to do anyway with that tho. How could I do this. Maybe straight wire starter relay?

Tim, suggest you start a new post for your issue.

Yea, you have to have that fuse panel to route power. I suspect by blinkers you have the running lights. They wire directly from the ignition switch.

The fuses are important, if you want to run without the fuse panel some type of relocated fuse box would be needed.

Hate to revive an old thread, but does anyone happen to have photos of their XJ headlight assembly on a stock/naked bike? I'm trying to get an idea of how these parts would go together. I'm finding brackets, buckets, mounts, and wires on ebay, I just don't know where they'd go together. So if I could get a photo of an assembly or some directions and suggestions, that would be fantastic. Here's a larger photo of my avatar to show you what I'm working with. I've got a front fairing (WindJammer) that I intend on removing, so I'll need a headlight mount, turn signal mounts, as well as the lights. [IMG]

Masterx, I am in the exact same boat as you. Just took off the Vetter and looking for diagrams of what i need to mount stock-looking headlight and signals on the front forks. Any help would be appreciated!
