    Hi,

I have the ferrodo 277P pads for the bike. I have the calipers cleaned and new orings and all ready to go.

When I assemble the brakes, I can't insert the pin through the hole in the pads while the shim is in (shim in pics included - one pic with shim in the brake assembly, one pic with shim next to it). I also can't see the shim on the parts fiche. Perhaps there isn't meant to be a shim? maybe it came with the last pads that were installed? Can I leave the shim out? The pads are snug without it, in fact the pin is stiff to insert even without the shim.

I've said shim a lot now.

On very close inspection, it seems the shoulders of the Ferrodo 277P pads are just very ever so slightly higher than on the old pads, The old pads go back in, which is nice: it implies I haven't bent something getting them out. Perhaps I should shave down the shoulders of the new pads? Is that a thing?

The shim is meant to be there, sounds like the pads you bought are not meant to be there.

Can't think of any reason why you couldn't alter the profile of the pads to make them fit. After assembly I would be sure to test functionality with a very close eye.

Wait a minute... quick cross reference indicates that the 277P is for an RD 350.

Click the XJ4EVER icon and get the right pads.

you have to adjust the hole in the pad that the pin goes through with a round file. look at your old pads and you will see it is a little different.

Only if you want the brake pads to rattle constantly.

As long as the slight shape/profile of the brake backing plates is the ONLY difference, then that should be a POSSIBLE solution.

Thanks all! These are helpful responses.

I would have bought the pads from xj4ever, but the shipping to Australia starts to get heavy. The ferodo website lists the 277P as for this bike (and I got them from Yamaha!! sheesh). I will give it a shot with grinding the hole to the same profile as the other pads. Super careful. Super gentle. And test.
