    Hi Everyone,

Great Forum, with lots of information I've been gathering over the past week. I recently acquired a 'new' non-running XJ750 project and started tearing apart my carburetor. I am following the Haynes manual putting it back together, but have a question about the 40 pilot jet next to the 120 main jet. I'm not clear if there is anything that needs to be taken out under the 40 pilot jet? I might see some something, but I'm not sure... I don't want to force anything. But I left carb cleaner in there and tried to feel out if there is a flat screw head, but I don't feel anything so I'm unsure.
    Thank you for your input

I too have seen some thing under the pilot jet when it's been removed from carb body. that orifice is threaded all the way down to a brass restrictor tube or an emulsion tube. haven't any luck removing it for cleaning . 650 maxim 1981 . The bike sat for years and the carbs had green residue throught out them. It runs rich and fouls the plugs up in short time. my thinking is it may not be draw enough air in with the gas in the idle circuit and making it impossible to set the carbs right.

But there really is nothing under there that can be removed. The brass venturi is a press fit.

If there is not enough air being drawn in there won't be enough fuel drawn in either, so that is not the cause of your rich condition. Have you started a thread so we can help you solve your problem?
