I got a set of these xenarc HID driving lights from a friend.

One of them didnt work so I was tinkering the idea of putting the good one on the seca.

    So heres what I did.

I took the auxiliary light of the bike..gutted it. Cut a space out of the back of the housing big enough to fit the HID ballast in there. The HID light it self is held in with three metal tabs I made and JB welded to the reflector.

The main control module is mounted under the tank.

I used silicone all around the back of the light head to keep water out.
and mounted a toggle switch on the center peace of the handle bars.

And had to modify/make a mounting plate to remount the aux. light.

Only downfall is the bike has to warm up and fully charge the battery before you can turn it on .....takes a lot to get the ballast kicked in.

I have pics on my phone..Ill try and have them up before the night is out.

Sounds interesting, what are you going to use it for? Most of the ones I've seen for sale only use 35 watts so it seems the bike electrical system should be able to run it without any problems. Does yours take more power than that?

No thats what it has is the 35w system at 5400k color temp.

What I was talking about on the start up is the ballast has to build up 20,000 vdc to fire the diode up...after that its fine.

As for use...Im getting tired of riding the back roads and not being able to see whats ahead. I put the toggle switch on it because I dont plan on using it in the city.

Here is a video showing how the HID ballast acts if you dont let the bike run for a bit before turning on the HID light.

I wouldn't recommend converting those over to HID. The HID diode is very, very bright. The aux, light on the seca has the internal light cover that keeps the diode from blinding you.

Your best bet is to find a complete HID driving or fog light kit off ebay. I lucked out and got these for free. The xenarc kit new is $398.00

Are you saying I shouldn't do it because it would be too bright for others? I'm only using one of those lights. Is there anyone that makes a reproduction light housing in yellow? The bulbs are bad in my foglights, so If I can just convert it to use an h4 bulb that would be ok I guess. I just want a yellow lens. I love that old school look.

dustball....that is why I have a new switch installed for the light I only plan on using it along our long stretches of empty roads at night..I work till 1am.

maximuschop...What I was saying is the hid diode is bright enough that it will hurt the retina in yours eyes looking at it. And it would cast off "alot" of off axis light that may blind you at night.

i want to use these in my main driving light... aimed properly

do they make reliable motorcycle kits? (round head light)

there are way to many deer where i live and i don't want to make meat of one, it tends to hurt.

Turtleman, Look for an H4 HID kit, and get a 7" round "diamond" headlight for a beetle. They're aftermarket, but the same shallowness. You can get the headlights and HID on ebay. The HID kit you will have to specify what range to have, and generally the lower the number, the more like daylight they are. Plus theyre only a 55w lowbeam/60w highbeam anyway.

The headlight is set up for changeable bulbs so it has the hole cut out for the H4 bulb. Which will fit the H4 HID beam in.

    Have fun!
