I am thinking about drilling my front brake rotors mainly for cosmetic appearance.
Has anyone experienced increased or decreased braking performance after drilling their rotors. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Jack

Why not get a set that is already slotted/drilled?

you'll want to be careful with the heat and also chamfer or round over the edges of the holes or they will cut into the pads.

Wow.....good time to ask this question. Go to your local wal-mart and pick the up the issue of The Horse back street Chopper mag. It has a great how to article on how to do this correctly in your own garage, with minimal of tools. I read the article and was very impressed, picking up the mag for $5 would answere all your questions and give you everything you'd need to know.

I had a pro do mine.

I have two 550 Secas, one has a stock Yamaha brake with a drilled rotor and stainless lines (Yamaha rotor, Yammie pads.)

The other has an EBC full-floating disc and EBC pads, with stainless lines.

I can tell you this about the effectiveness of the mods:

-biggest SINGLE improvement in braking was the stainless lines.

-drilling the stock rotor alleviated a pronounced fading issue which was possibly exacerbated by the stainless lines. By alleviated I don't mean cured, but greatly reduced (by about 90%.)

-the EBC brake still out-performs the "improved" stocker in both braking performance (stopping distance) lever effort and it's completely fade-free.

    Stock brake, drilled:
