I am looking to clean up my front wheel hub a bit and i was thinking of removing the magnets from my disc brake that my speedo uses to calculate speed. It was never really accurate. I had to fudge wheel size settings to match the read out at 35mph on my car. I purchased an analog to digital speedo cable from koso and unfortunately the male insert cant screw onto the drive gear. No threads.

Is there a way to convert the gear drive to accept a thread or any other aftermarket/oem replacements that would work?

Would a speedo drive gear from an R6 fit and work?

What does the speedo end of the cable look like? It might be that the factory XJ cable is what you need.

I have the factory cable on my shelf which just slides on and bolts onto the fork i think for support. The cable i bought has the threaded end http://kosonorthamerica.com/shop/motorcycle-mx/speed-signal-converter-d-black-connecter/.

I noticed the R6 speedo gear has the threaded female port, just dont know if that will fit or work on out bikes.

i hid the pickup behind the fender and put the magnet on where your reflecto rim stripes are. how can it not be accurate ? how did you measure the circumference of the tire?

Measured with chalk and tape measure. When i first walked her out of the garage it shot up to 5mph. Took her for a spin and it registered 40mph for 30. Lowered the wheel size in the speedo and i got it to read 30 when i matched 35mph of a friend driving his car.

I replaced the original magnets with larger ones. Poles are north toward the sensor. So it should be fine. Reasons for replacing them, i couldnt get a straight head on read from the sensor, only sideways. I also wanted the larger surface area for the epoxy. The original magnets were tic tac sized.

I also tried 1 magnet and 6. All the same.

Have a look at a Honda style speedo drive , my one on my cb900 is similar to that cable end you have.

Looks like an 82 seca turbo uses the same threaded connection. Does anyone know if it will fit a maxim?

Turbo and 550r, 650r 750rl and 900rk all use same one. All use same oil seal in the wheel as well
Check with Hogfiddles he should have a few on hand only problem I seen is the leading axle fork may be too close to cable end

Incase other's are looking to do the same thing. The drive gear fits the wheel with no problem. The issue comes when you put the front wheel back on. The threaded connection for the Speedo cable sticks out at a larger angle and hits the forks. If the forks werent front leading then i suspect it wouldnt be an issue.

If you upgraded the forks to a seca or the r6, then this will most likely work for you.
