My rear tire valve stem has a slow leak, and I would like to replace it. Specifically, there is a leak both at the core, and at the region where the valve stem seals to the rim. I believe it is leaking due to the use of Fix-A-Flat, as there is white powdery stuff stuck to all the surfaces inside the wheel and tire. They are tubeless tires.

The valve stem currently on there has a gasket underneath, and a double-nut on top. It looks a lot like this:
    bikebandit dot com/aftermarket-parts/motorcycle-wheels-and-final-drive/valve-stems-caps-universal/camel-tubeless-tire-valve-stem

I tried to find that locally, but all I could find is TR-416 valve stems, like this:
    oreillyauto dot com/site/c/detail/XTS0/17416/N1769.oap

So can I use the TR-416, or should I hold out for one more similar to the current one? If so, it must be specific to motorcycles, so I'll stop by my MC dealer on Monday. What do I need to ask for to ensure I get the right thing?

Fix -A-Flat can do terrible things to the stem. Is the tire still good? I think it is an aesthetic choice for you. My front and back stems don't match and it doesn't bother me. The rear in fact (on my XJ) is a 90 degree angle which makes it a lot easier to check pressure and fill as needed. There is a lot less room in the back unlike the front, because of the final drive/drum.

Good question about the tire. I see a plug in the tread region. I'm guessing that when fix-a-flat didn't work, they went with the plug. New tires are definitely on the list - current ones are Metzeler ME55A's which have been discontinued for a while, but I've got other issues to contend with first.

Anyway, I scraped the fix-a-flat away from the valve stem counterbore in the rim and put the cleaned-up valve stem back in. It still leaked a little bit around the outside of the stem, and quite a bit through the core. I tried a new core, and it still leaked, so there must be enough crud stuck to the inside of the stem that it just won't seal well.

It seems that a valve stem marked to fit an 8.3mm/.327" rim hole is the ticket. OEM or aftermarket, whatever I'm able to get my hands on. I will also look for a right-angle one, since that would sure make it easier to check the tire pressure with my dial-type gauge. Thank you for the help.

I'll second that comment. I was going to get brake shoes off Amazon, but after being encouraged to take another look at xjforever for shoes, I ordered them from Len. I'm pretty budget minded, however, after I figured out taxes, the costs are pretty close and I know the part will fit right when I order from Len.

And yeah, he does provide support that you will not find anywhere, with the exception of folks on this site.

Does anyone know where I can find directions on how to replace the tire valve specifically for the XJ650? My wrenching skills are mid-to-low tier so I rely on instructions. and do you know if I need to go buy some kind of rubber sealant during replacement?

Remove the lock nut and the retaining nut, remove stem. Replace in reverse order. Unless you mean just the inside part.....then get the little tool needed to remove the air needle valve inside the schrader valve
