1982 xj750 chopper build

Picked this bike up for a few hundred bucks. Thought it would be a fun project.
100% stock when I picked it up. I had absolutley no idea what I was getting myself into when I got this. I think I've spent about $100 so far. I am mainly using my granpas 1971 BSA for parts. I welded a custom hardtail. I borrowed my dads welding stuff and quickly got to work. I gotta say, I am pretty proud of myself.

Does it run?

 

Yep! I was out riding around for awhile then I needed to take it apart again to start working on the frame, but now I'm having issues with the wiring. I think I got it figured out though! This was a winter project that I was way to excited for and I started a tad early lol.

 

Next thing is building a battery box.

 

Quick update
this is how she is sitting now. Just about finished up the hardtail.
The tank is off a 71 BSA and it's having a hard time fitting around the bottom where the frame splits off in to two. My BSA just has one. Might have to cut and weld to make it fit perfect.
Got the Rabbit ear bars off the same BSA.

I like it! Ive never ridden a hardtail though. The bars and tank give it great lines.

Tank, bars and fender are off of my 71 BSA lightning.

Not a ton has been done as I have been working non stop. Still having a few issues with the electrical stuff so I gotta take it all apart and go through it very carefully. Its getting chilly up here in Minnesota and I am starting to winter proof my garage so I can work out there all winter. I have my 71 BSA I am rebuilding as you can see sleeping behind the Maxim.

 

This is my other 82 xj750 maxim. Picked this up out a barn earlier this spring as my first bike and followed all the DIY threads on here and had it running 100% perfect in about 2 weeks.

That's my winter project! My grandpa got it from Nevada in the 70's rode it here to Minnesota, then when I was about 5 my dad brought it to our garage and I use to sit on it when he would work on it, and now I am 23 and he ask me "Why havent you taken the Beezer yet?" and that day I brought it to my house and started getting ready to rebuild it. Hoping I can keep it around to give to my kid someday.

 

few Updates.

So over the winter I was going to start my search for a BSA or Triumph Engine, but I was having zero luck. So I started to think about using as much as possible for the X. So far so good! I have my good buddy helping me weld up and fab part for me, and I am having a relative that has worked at Harley Davidson for 10+ years and countless other Custom motorcycle shops lend me a hand. He has had his fair share of Japaneses chops so I know I am in good hands.
