I hate to ask this, because it only brings to light the fact that I have YET to order the XJCD (I know, I know!), however I am in need of a wiring diagram for a 1983 XJ550 Maxim.

The reason: Charging voltage low. Numbers:

    OCV: 12.4V (should be 12.6-12.8V)
Idle, running: 11.8V (I believe this should be 13+V)
    Operating, running, 2.5kRPM: 12.9V (Should be 14+V)
    Operating, running, 5kRPM: 12.9-12.95V (Should hold 14+V)

Alternator/Generator new OEM gear. Rotor, brushes, and stator replaced as of this June.

Considering swapping the voltage regulator with my known good one on the XJ650, however Dave F (hogfiddles) has brought to my attention the fact that normally their failure results in excessive voltage, not low voltage.

I do need to measure my generator output and input, which will happen tomorrow morning. I need the wiring diagram to determine what circuits need tested, and any spec sheets on what voltages I should be getting.

I greatly appreciate your help everyone.

Regulator/Rectifier can be the cause of low voltage. Over charging is always Regulator/Rectifier, but that doesn't mean it can't fail the other way too.

There are a number of other things that can cause low voltage. They include bad connectors (stator to wiring harness is a common one) or other wiring problems.
