1990 Yamaha YX600 Radian Coils

    Hi, so I'm new here and only joined after seeing multiple people comment on how the radian is basically an XJ650 with some slightly different parts and style changes.

    Why am I here? I am trynna figure out which coils I can use on my 1990 Radian. The shop manual says that the factory coils are Hitachi CM12-10 (2.43-9.7/10.56-15.84, for the YX600S, which is what I have) and/or CM12-40 (which is the lower resistance coil for the YX600W, 1.8-2.2/9.6-14.4).

    Also, from what I can tell from online and the shop manual, the 86-89 radian had a different coil setup than the 90. I wanna found out if that's legit.

    I cannot, for the of life of me, find any CM12-10 coils (I would like to find reman or new if I can). From what I can tell, the bike had CM12-09 coils on it, according to the numbers on the shell. Are those any different from the factory CM12-10? Could the CM12-09 coils be the reason I'm having spark issues? Cylinders 2 and 3 fire with ease, cylinder 1 seems to be fine as well but cylinder 4 is cold. When testing the coil for 1 and 4, it did not read well on either side and was not promising. Should I change the coil out completely? Should I cut the wires down some first? Please help me. Thank you.

    Thank you for the response, I'm just going off what I've seen in other threads. I've never owned a maxim or FZ so I don't really know. I will definitely look into those coils though. Im pretty much open to any ideas. Haha. But before I do buy any coils, do you think that the coil would be leading only 1 of the 2 cylinders it runs to not fire? When I read the cylinder 1 wire with my meter, it came up blank, same with the one on cylinder 4 but cylinder 4 is the only one that stays cold when running (slightly warm from ambient heat coming from the other cylinders but much different temp from the other three).

    You have two coils - one feeds cylinders 1 & 4 an teh other 2&3 - if only one is not firing then check/ renew plug caps first (cheapest option) you may have to trim 1/4" off teh HT leads t refit tighter => better contact. I likes teh 'dyna style' coils because you can renew HT lead which can also break down.

    You can renew the leads on Honda coils too. Jetfixer fitted Honda CB 750 coils to his xj 750.
