1st gear jumping?

    1982 yamaha xj 1100, First gear jumps alot when i try to use it, are these bikes known for such problems? and where should i start trouble shooting? Thanks guys

    You mean it jumps OUT of gear; or that the engine revs up with no corresponding increase in speed?

    It seems like its jaming up, cant give it gas otherwise it wants to bind up, every other gear works great tho

    First gear is usually bouncy in any vehicle if that's what you mean. As far as it jamming, which I'm having trouble understanding, I would think would be maybe a bent shift fork or damaged gear teeth. Any metal shards or even chips on your drain plug?
