1st just picked up a 1982 maxim 750 yics motor has 41,000 miles but was owned by one owner and has a complete service record valve air and tune ups up till 1999 when he parked her in garage. i cleaned carb fired right up. new bat, air filter, plugs. checked compression.
IS 41,000 ALOT ON THESE BIKES?

2ND 1980 MAXIM 650 NONE YICS what is the diference yics and not?
this bike has 5,000 miles on it sat outside 2 years but coverd cleanded carbs, new bat, checked compression, runs good just need colortune to be perfact.

both bikes are dent free great seats and besides miles in the same condition 82 has more fetures. but they are bothe clean bikes.

ps i will ajust valves on both just becuase.

SO WHAT ONE WOULD YOU KEEP? one black on burgondy

41k is not bad depending how it was maintained. But you also cant judge a bike by the number of miles on the clock (its easy to disconnect the speedometer cable) You just have to go by overall condition.

Hmmm! 5000 miles is what i drove last year! - but not much in 30 years. 41,000 miles - a good guess: the engine is half way through, so your bike can last another 30 years. In other words if compression is good and its running smooth, don't bother to much about the milage. Take the bike that you are most comfortable with.

If the mileage on both bikes is accurate, I would keep the lower-mileage unit and "zero it out."

I would be more concerned with the possibility of the primary chain tensioner disintegration issue on the high-mileage bike.

YICS is a series of interconnecting passages in the head, upstream from the intake ports, that direct a "swirl" of air into the combustion chamber behind the intake valve when it's open. This incoming swirl (supposedly) helps increase fuel efficiency and horsepower by increasing combustion efficiency, while decreasing emissions at the same time.
