My 82 XJ750J came with the trick adjustable 2 piece aluminum handlebars. While they are most definately adjustable to any position to keep you comfortable, I am contemplating the thought of a regular set of bars as on every other Maxim. I like the look of that, especially with two 6"-7" headlights.

What parts are needed to convert to regular tubing handlebars from these single bolt attachment 2 piece units? Special riser adapters, 650/750 tripletrees ... ???

    Anyone done this yet?

    Thanks

I did it. I found a pair of 7/8 risers off of an older Yamaha (650 I think) from a salvage yard and use regular chrome handlebars. You will need to remove the bottom mounts from the top fork clamps (the studs that your bars mount to) and use those holes to mount your new risers. You can go with 8" higher bars without changing your cables. That way you'll be able to go higher or bring your bars back toward you more if you want.

Thanks bud. Been thinking about how to do this since I bought the bike. Just never dug into it to see how.

    Thank you.
