You can try an oil change and see if that fixes it. Otherwise, go buy some clutch plates and check the video link in my sig.

forward/left res, down on, back/right pri.
try an oil change my take a few miles to clear up if its the oil, if it keeps slipping time to look at your clutch plates.

Your clutch isn't slipping because you had gas in the oil.

Your clutch is slipping because it's 30 years old. The little friction pads have turned to linoleum.

    Rebuild it.

New friction plates and springs; new plain plates if those're burnt, warped or scored otherwise they should clean up.

And you'll need a cover gasket.

For the petcock: Run it in the ON position most/all of the time. When it starts to sputter and die, switch it 180 degrees to RES (reserve). This helps you NOT get stranded. Use PRIME (in the middle) after you have the carbs off or run out of gas and need to refill the carb bowls so the bike will start.

If your valve appears to not be functioning properly (allowing gas to always pass into the carbs in ON or RES or not allowing fuel even when the bike is running) you should rebuild it. I had to rebuild mine when I got my bike.

Your clutch may still need replaced. Many of these bikes still have original clutches in them (BOTH mine included) and so it is quite possible that the clutch could be your problem.

Now in the event you confirm the clutch is fine, it may also be the oil you are using. Here's a good question for you: Why would you use diesel oil over motorcycle specific oil in a gasoline motorcycle with a WET clutch?

Change out your oil with motorcycle oil (I have had no problems with Yamalube brand 10W40 for motorcycle engines), ride a few hundred miles and change the oil again. Make sure you drain ALL the oil (including the final drive in the bottom of the transmission) so you can get all that diesel stuff out.

IF you suspect gasoline in the oil, SMELL the filler port on the left side of the transmission. If you don't smell gas then it is fine.

Good luck, and congratulations on making progress so far.
