    Resurecting a 1980 650 maxim. # 3 cyl at only 40 psi dry, others at 90+
Oil in cyl does help...pumps to 80-90? suspect rings...have ridden as is ten or more times and changed the oil twice since getting running months ago. Anyone have any luck with oil additives or ? I don't want to tear apart..will part out or swap engines otherwise. Thanks.

Those Compression numbers are far below MINIMUM.

If you do get the Bike running at those numbers ... it won't run for very long.

If you don't want to do a Ring Job ...
You have to find a replacement engine.

Don't buy a replacement engine without the Seller verifying some good Compression Numbers IN WRITING.
You don't want to start buying bad engine's.
    It happens!

Re-ringing is really easier than it soumds, and like Rick says, you might be swapping one bad motor for another. Usually symptoms like yours are not indicative of severe cylinder wear, more than likely it's stuck rings or misaligned ring gaps, and all the cylinders need is a quick once over with a flex hone, new rings fitted, and slap it back together. Just sayin'.......
