Does the center stand have to be removed to convert ? Since I have an oil cooler manifold between the block and cap that holds oil filter making the assy move out by an 1-1/2 inches between the existing cylinder 2 and 3 pipes will this hit the 4 into 1 exhaust ? Do I need to change carb jets ? How do I determine if jets need changing? And finally what brand of 4 into 1 exhaust would you recommend that gives a dunstall muffled sound similar to the factory pipes without that loud megaphone sound ? Thanks

With the 550 Seca you have about one choice unless you get lucky on eBay, and that's the MAC 4-1. (Unless you buy from overseas.)

I'm not sure if the MAC allows you to retain the centerstand; but since it's a chain driven bike requiring regular chain lubricating and adjusting you might remember just how important the centerstand is...

I don't know if it will clear the extended oil filter; and MAC claims you don't need to re-jet.

Going to a 4-1 WILL change how it sounds; everything has to come out the same hole.

My XJ650 has a 4-into-1, I believe it's a MAC and there are no problems with the center stand. The pipe turns right long before it encounters the center stand. Not many companies out there still making 4-into-1's for the XJs...

With regards to re-jetting, I'd just play it careful... my bike has gone up two sizes on the mains (116s) and up one on the idle's (45s, I think), plus shims on the needle jets. If I were you try some plug chops or keep an eye on the plugs after a few rides to make sure it's not running too hot.

I have an 82 XJ650 and it has the MAC 4into1 exhaust and it runs great. It does fit with the center stand still intact. Also I did not have to rejet.

I just put a mac 4 into 1 on my 82 XJ550 with the stock air cleaner I went 2 sizes bigger on the main Jet & 1 size bigger on the pilot jet and it runs perfect! and the plugs look perfect to. Even though Mac says you don't have to rejet I think you do. I have never put a header on any bike that I did'nt have to Rejet.
The Mac 4 into 1 does not affect the center stand at all.

I replaced the Mac 4-1 that came on the bike with new Mac 4-1 and had to go up two sizes bigger on the main jets. To remove the oil filter for an oil change I had to remove the headers every time, a pain in the butt. I bought a spin on oil filter conversion kit from XJ4ever. The best investment I made.
