It's essentially "half an XJ." DOHC with shim-over-bucket valves; and a monoshock rear suspension. The aftermarket seems to have completely ignored this series in favor of the original twin-shock SOHC XS400.

Looks like somebody sawed the muffler cans off about halfway back on that one.

If you're considering it, GET A COMPRESSION TEST. Being a "beginner bike" maintenance was often more-ignored than on the bigger XJs; I've walked away from a couple of them because of a 40psi difference between one good cylinder and one dying one.

Adjusting the valves is a bit of a PIA because you have to remove the front engine mounts.

That's a parts bike, or a project bike, as far as I'm concerned. The price is steep considering the condition....

    tank has been replaced
    seatcover is a replacement
    grab bar is missing
    sidecover is missing
panel under the seat is missing
    rear fender is missing
    rear turnsignals are missing
    airbox boots are missing
    fueltank filler cap is missing
    mufflers are cut

That's what I can see from just this side pic.......who knows what we'd see--or not see from the other side.

I'd buy it at $250.00, don't know if I'd be willing to go 3 0r not...........for me, it would depend on if the tank is solid, clean, no dents, and the gauges had low milage and the red wasn't faded at all......clear title is a plus.

I have one that I'm restoring, a guy I work with has one that is near mint, I know of two others, and there are a few guys on the list here that have one as well.

Fun little bike, sporty, but not much power. Good on gas mileage though!!!!

In real nice condition, though, they could go $1000 or so, though...........
