I have a 650 and have a trade lined up for a 550. Both bikes are in great condition, the 650 has 12,500 and the 550 has 13,500. If I step down to the 550 from my 650 am I going to notice the lack of power or does the chain drive help out with that?

I would love to make the swap because I prefer chain drive, but if the bike is going to feel gutless I dont want to make the trade.

I haven't had a chance to actually ride my 650 yet; but I can tell you the 550s are far from "gutless" (the Secas anyway.)

Remember the chain drive bikes are also six-speeds; think "streak-flash-bam!" rather than "electric locomotive."

The 550 is also a good 100 pounds lighter.

ok. That sounds like its going to feel much more potent than the 650. I came off of a CR250 on to my XJ650 and it felt like a big slow... beast... it just doesnt feel like a 650. lol
