I really want a better seat for my 81 650. I don't want to shave mine down because putting the original cover back on won't look right and i'm not a fan of recovering with a plain, smooth piece of leather over the entire seat.
Are there any better seats that would be interchangable with my bike? Thanks

    Hi,

Any trained upholster will be able to duplicate the original seat including the foam padding.
I having my seat for my XJ600 done a.t.m.
Its only gonna cost me $125

My suggestion would be to ask a pro.

    Andrew

I'll second that - find an upholsterer locally that does seats - you bring them your seat pan and they'll reshape or replace the foam, and create a cover to fit perfectly. I had my seat done for less than $100 because I went with a stock look...

can they preserve the original seat look? I like the original stitching and design, i'm just not a fan of the plain, lawn mower seat look.

As I said - I went with the stock look too - the only thing I changed was that I removed the piping from the seams (no reason for it). You almost couldn't tell it's not stock until you get close to see the "leather look" material.

Not to hijack, but do the 650 Midnight and the Non-Midnight 650's share the exact same seat pan?

I've been able to find a double bucket seat (complete) from Saddleman, but it only lists it for the Midnight 650.
