Interesting, but "great shape" must be a relative term, with a different meaning to me...

Gas tank was prepped for paint 20 years ago.

Honestly it is in great shape for $250 and for being stored so close to the ocean.

I guess it isn't fair to compare to mine, which while stored in a garage for 31 years and only driven a couple hundred miles/year for 17 years, had an annual bath, oil change, fuel change, etc.

Plus, a 550 maxim doesn't have near the rare parts that are on the 650rj

Don't know if it is still available--I've texted him. However, an earlier posting says that the compression on one cyl is low. Still worth $250? Not sure I would want to do a rebuild.

Definitely still worth $250! Even without the correct exhaust OR the cut-off rear fender. If it were close by, I'd have already grabbed it

Even if you add the $400-$500 to have it shipped! Still a good deal.

    Seriously Interested Here!!!
Do We know anyone in the area that can play middle man and take possession of the bike???

I've sent 2 texts and left a message on his voice mail telling him I want it. So far no response, so I guess it's gone. However, it is still on Craigslist, so maybe I'll hear from him.

He still has it, so I've asked when I can get it. Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but if I decide not to rebuild it (hopefully only a stuck ring) then maybe one of you can get it from me. I wouldn't want to part it out unless the engine is totally trashed.

Talked to the guy, made the deal, took the day off, headed down the Jacksonville trailer in tow, called and talked with him and confirmed when I would arrive. Got a text about 15 minutes later that he had sold the bike. Obviously, with the younger generation, at least some of them, your word is not your bond. And I told him so. Too bad, I had decided that I would go through the bike and try to quantify the issues and then let one of you buy it from me for cost plus gas money. I didn't want to rebuild it if that was needed, and it was too complete to part out.

    Typical of todays young mentality.
Unfortunately it is now in the hands of another youth that bought a cheap bike, and is going to destroy it just to be cool,
Keep an eye on craigslist/ebay for the parts.

You do have a contract with him, even though it's a verbal one. It's not worth the effort, but if you wanted to you could file in small claims court and make him nervous.

Too many people today have no integrity.

And it probably wouldn't phase him either, but I hope you told them off but… and he should pay for the trailer rental:)

Same bike I have! That would easily be a $1000 bike up here in Canada.

It only cost me my time and gas. I have a Kendon m/c trailer. I would have to file a small claims in Florida and it would be my word against his and since he has already proved to not be an honorable man he probably would lie in court. He knows what I think of his integrity--or rather lack thereof. But at least I had a chance to stop by Sams and have a hot dog and coke.

I love Sam's Club hotdogs with mustard and sauerkraut.
