Okay here we go. My 86 Maxim X has not been charging for several months. I have been getting by with charging it after each trip. I have replaced the regulator/rectifier, the generator stator and lastly the generator rotor. The rectifier/regulator and stator came from XJ forever. I got the rotor off of eBay. The last thing I did was make sure the rotor was turning. I still have zero volts out of the stator I'm at a loss. I've got to get this thing running or get rid of it. Can you think of anything I've missed? I have an AGM battery in it that takes a charge just fine. I had even bought an on-board charger which I was getting by fine with. But after the last reassembly before I put in the used rotor, it got worse. It wouldn't even make the 10 mile trip to work.

What are the brushes and slip rings like? My 900f wasn't charging. It was the wrong connector plug was the problem. Have you checked every wiring connector for dirt and corrosion, loose cables, etc. Have you put a multimeter across the battery terminals and checked what voltage you have with engine running? I read here the alternator does not charge below 2000rpm.

Good suggestions to check the connections for corrosion etc.

If all good check the voltage on the Br wire on the rectifier regulator connector and also make sure that 12V is getting to the brushes. I am not sure if the 86 splits off to a 2 pin connector for the brushes.
All good check the voltage on the green wire to chassis ground on the rectifier regulator, it should be near 1 to 2V with the bike not running and the ignition on.

Another easy test for the brushes is to measure the resistance from the brown wire to the green wire. You can do that at the rectifier regulator connector, and it should be close to 4 ohms, although readings up into the teens seem to work fine.

I did not know about the 2000rpm spec. The wires from stator are new. I had to or choose to split them out of connector due to damage of old chassis connector. Don't remember if wires from brushes are new

I've probably done resistance check. Will recheck for sure and do the voltage check

We need pics when you get a chance. The three wires connector coming from your right engine side cover really needs to be looked at. The three wires used to overheat on all the metrics back then. So many bikes were given up on and it was just lose, not touching or corrosions that made them stop charging. Keep us posted.

I had to replace connector on chassis harness for stator to connect to. I'll go over harness this weekend. I'm just perplexed because wires from stator are new and wires from brushes in cover are "new". I had pre-existing condition where a fuse would blow if I had cover on the panel where lights are for turn signals, oil pressure, high beam, neutral
