I got this bike (82 750 Maxim) that was a project that didn't get very far. The airbox was out, frame under the seat removed. He was going to drop the seat I guess. I replaced the frame members under the seat, built a bracket for the modified seat, and am trying to figure out how the airbox is mounted. I see where one bolt is used on the left side under the CDI module. Other than that, I see some holes on the top but not sure what they were used for. Am I missing some straps or brackets? Does anyone have a photo of how it's mounted?
    Thanks!

The mounting point next to the TCI (not CDI) plate is one. The other is a mounting bracket that goes to that hole in the middle of your pic, just in front of your new seat plate. The two outer holes on each side are for mounting cosmetic covers (of which there are several types, depending on which XJ the airbox would be fitted to).

Make sure that you leave enough room for the airbox cover to ne removed, and for access to the forward airbox cover screw.

OK, I guess I'll add a bracket off the front of the seat plate, drop a screw through it. That should work just fine.
When I welded that plate in, I was not thinking of that front screw in the cover. I had to modify it, not the prettiest-but it seems to work.
    Thanks

Interesting solution for the airbox cover. Yours should work fine, but the gold bracket is 180º out from the stock configuration, and the airbox has a plastic mount that slopes up to cover the gold-colored bracket (yours has obviously been modified to suit the lower seat).

Also keep in mind that the rear mount for the fuel tank is in the same area (yours is also missing), unless the PO made mounts for a different tank that I'm not seeing.

Is there room for the fuse box under the lower seat?

I took a few photos that might be helpful. I apologise for the quality.
Looking foward with the seat removed (note that the stock seat rests on the frame rails via a set of rubber feat, and has no front mount, but is instead held by hinges on the right frame rail, and the lock on the left). You cna see the fuel tank mount in the too center, and the lower edge of the (raised) fuel tank along the top of the frame. The front airbox cover screw is visible just forward of the fuse box (ignore the wires, I have accessories).

Here is a side view of the front airbox cover and how it attaches to the cover mount.

The top-front airbox mounting bracket and bolt as seen from the front, looking rearward (rear is to the left in this photo). Notice that the airbox mounting bracket is part of the tank mounting bracket, and that it is slotted to allow the airbox to be moved rearward for servicing the carbs.

Another view of the airbox mounting bracket, again looking rearward.

Those last two show the bracket well, I definitely didn't get a bracket like that. Very helpful photos, now I know what I need to fab. I also need to come up with a battery box.
I just got that same fusebox from Chacal, I'm glad I could see how you mounted yours. Thanks!

I should have taken the rear tank mounting rubber off of the bracket. The cross member is not as thick as it appears. You can see the thickness of the steel in the last photo.

I drilled out the rivets and turned the gold bracket to accept the tab I mounted to the front of the cover. You're correct, the rear tank mount was gone. I'm going to fabricate some type of rubber block to pinch between the curved flange on the rear of the tank and the plate I welded in.
Not sure about room for the fusebox yet, I'm waiting to get the seat back from the upholsterer.
