79' xs 750

    Theres a 1979 Yamaha xs 750 for sale in my area and the seller says that 2nd gear doesnt work. any ideas what might be wrong with it and how hard it would be to fix?

    It will require splitting the cases and replacing 2 gears and a shift fork. Perhaps a new shift drum too.
    Remove the oil filler cap and (without it running) reach inside with finger and pull up on the primary chain. If it touches the top of the crankcase, it needs a new chain too.
