79 xs750 does it matter which alt wires get hooked together

    Well I'm taking the engine out so I can see what's going on inside, for the tranny problem. I got it all unhooked except for the wires for the alt. There are three white wires but no place ot unplug them, it looks like someone has spliced them togeather were the plug in would be, and the wires go straight into the regulator.
    My question is does it matter which white wire goes where, I know on my 77 goldwing it doesn't matter, Just want to make sure it's the same on Yamaha's.

    It's the same, I marked each and rejoined them to the same one they came off, but did not need to.

    Thanks That's what I needed to know, that way I don't have to worry about marking them with tape and the tape coming off while I'm pullling the engine out, Been on those jobs before.

    There is no need to worry about order on those connections, just be sure they are clean,good and tight. May I suggest you invest in a little clear heat shrink, type up your labels on your Brother P-Touch and make it happen in a nice, orderly manner.
