Have an 81 maxim, and when I turn it over to start, gas pours out of the first 2 carbs on the left side of the bike
any ideas why gas would be pouring out where the carb meets the air filter tube? Are the floats overflowing somehow?

    thanks in advance

It appears that your floats are stuck or there is dirt in the float needles keeping them open for some reason. Just my 2c.

NEw carbs? No idea. I would just tear into them an rebuild them instead. All the parts are available yet.

New is unobtainium. Used is the only way to go now-a-days. Good idea to simply overhaul yours. If you would like, you can wander over and we can clean up yours. I've a couple of sets here at the house. Might be a good idea to get new seals and o-rings from Chacal.

Look at it this way ... you'll be overhauling your Carbs and giving them a thorough Cleaning. They sound like they need it. Also, it gives you the opportunity to repllace s few things that, after 20 years or so, probably need replacing.

Floats are pretty common to acting-up after awhile. You should order new Float Body's and Pins.
Get them in there, and while you are at it ... Clean-out the whole rack of whatever might be clogging-up the works after all these years.

Don't forget to do a "Clunk Test" and make sure the Diaphragm Pistons have free and unfettered travel. They have a tendency to start jamming-up after some years of Aluma-oxidation to the Bores.

Start a new thread when you begin the Carb work and we'll walk you right through the process.
