81 XJ550 Seca - What brakes to get?

    Hey all, I'm a new rider/wrencher. I have an 81 XJ550 Seca that I'm going through and fixing up. Loads of sketchy things I'm finding from the handiwork from the previous mechanic (or rider?).

    Anyway! What kind of rear break shoes can you all recommend? Front brake pads? eBay or Amazon links encouraged!

    I can't tell you the brakes I purchased last year. I can, however, tell you I got them from Len (XJ4Ever - upper right hand corner of this page). His prices are reasonable and service is outstanding. Of course, there are other places, but I wanted to make certain I ordered the right part.

    amazom look for caltric brand try to get the set that includes springs for the rear drums

    front and rear sintered front pads

    also note that you may need to rework the hole for front pads
    to be able to mount them
    save the old pad to compare.

    Sometimes buying the "cheapest" parts (especially brake system/safety parts) is not the wisest choice..........
