82 Maxim oil filter installation

    I am new to forum and I need help
    I just changed engine oil and filter on my 1982 Maxim 550.
    Now which way does oil filter go on ? notched end toward engine or flat end or does it matter?
    Would appreciate any help.

    Flat towards engine.

    Should go like this:

    ENGINE
    -
    FILTER(FLAT SIDE TOWARD ENGINE)
    -
    WASHER
    -
    SPRING
    -
    FILTER HOUSING
