I would recommend replacing them with the correct parts from XJ4Ever.

Just did it on my 550 Maxim.
Go with the 102 degree 5k ohm cap for the inners, or the 90 degree 5k ohm cap for the outers. Those would be the same as your originals. If you look at the cap on your bike on the side it will say 5k ohm if it is original. You can buy the whole set or just the ones you need.

    Oh, sorry.

TJ, are your wires crossed (pun intended?)

The 550s use 10K Ohm caps; the 120 degree for the inner and 90 for the outers.

I assumed you'd just tell Len which bike you have and he'd get you the correct ones. My original ones (outer on left, inner on right) don't say anything on them except "Made in Japan." Not "NGK" and no Ohm numbers:

You are correct... this is from XJ's catalog:
A variety of different size and shape plug caps are listed below, and although neither the original Tokai Denso caps nor the original 10K caps are available, NGK 5K caps come in a variety of original size configurations and can be safely used to replace broken, missing, damaged, or out-of-spec original caps. They accept up to 7mm spark plug wires easily.
I did order a 102 degree that looks like the one in the picture, only taller. Maybe he sent me a 120! 102 will work, is 120 better.
