    Here we go!

I’m starting my XJ build and figured I’d start this thread at the beginning and update as I go. Any questions or advice is welcome.

This is going to be a mix between a cafe racer and brat. Bike was my grandfathers and has been sitting in a barn for years. Ran great when it was put up.

First step is stripping ALOT of the bike down and focusing on getting it running.

Removed tank to replace petcock (shipped)

Tank needs to be cleaned out, good bit of rust. Going to try vinegar and screws to strip and baking soda and water to flush.

    Removed carburetor to rebuild (delivered)

Good luck getting it running by next week. First, your carb rebuild kit may only be good for the bowl gaskets. Next, switching to pods will make your carb tuning a nightmare, more than likely. Switching to new jet sizes is not a sure thing and you may need to do it several times in order to get your bike running almost as well as a stock bike.

Edit: Also, do not cut and hack the airbox to get it out. You may end up putting it back OR there is always someone looking for an airbox to replace their failed pods conversion.

Yea alittle too late for the air box, it was destroyed.
We’ll see what we can do.

Working out how I want to do the ignition system. (Coils/wires/plugs) half the plugs don’t aren’t produced anymore and the stock built in wires have threaded caps of course.
