Hello fellow XJ owners! Any advice? Tips? Better ways of doing this? Would be greatly appreciated... Changing out the timing chain. Floppy in all directions. I saw a vid showing a fella pulling the cams, to close the valves up. threading the new one through by connecting it to the old one and rolling the crank over. . New Chain ends laid over front and rear of engine out of the way. How do I ensure proper orientation of the Crank? Before I Reinstall cams. The caps, line up marks and rivet a permanent master link on top . The audio is In Polish. I have the Haynes manual . I've shimmed the valves. All within spec now. But noticed how bad the chain was . Balanced the carbs this year March/2025, new plugs, zoom zoom. But the chain is floating. I discovered a small scratch from the chain on the inside of the valve cover when I changed the gasket before last season. Guides good. Compared them to my other XJ engine with 1/4 the run time on it, they look no different. . Guides got lots of life left. Gears look good. I have a spare tensioner and gasket. I'll be servicing the one on it, but if it's garbage, should be ok I'm hoping. Thanks keep the rubber side down .!

Chain on the way. Gonna practice with the chain breaker on the donor engine. The cam gears from the donor engine have 6875 miles / 11 000 km. Upon inspection, these babies were run like Grandma was riding it. Like new. Regardless, they'll mesh better with the new chain, than the Existing gears with 34 375 miles / 55 000 km on them. Ridden hard and put away wet. Kind of worn. The previous owner rode Like the City of Edmonton, Alberta Ca. Was the Isle of man TT. We might open up the throttle once in awhile on the prairies to make up for the lack of curves. ;)
