    Hi all,

I got a XS400J 1982. My Oil Press. Lite is not working. Gnd the wire w/ a tester and the light will go on. Got a new switch in but the lite still won't work (unless I gnd it will a tester).

    I'm outta clue.

Anyone think of anything? I don't seems to have press. problem tho.

Check your wire continuity from the switch to the light - may be a break.

Have a request - can you post up a good pic of both side panels installed on your bike? I am missing mine and may just fab something but I have yet to find a decent pic. Thanks

Isn't it an "oil level" indicator like the other bikes, not "pressure?"

Ours is pressure fitz :) i can take some pics of my side covers and post em up tonight for ya if Vince doesn't.

Edit: the '83 at least is pressure. Comes on when ya turn the key, goes out when engine running, all from center stand.

Just checked, the Seca service manual for '82 says pressure as well.

The level lights do the same thing. Light is on when you turn on the key and shuts off when started. The XS400 manual does state pressure switch though - interesting

But since when I gnd the wire, the light will goes on, isn't that means the wire is good? (If the wire is broken, there shouldn't be any signal going to the lite itself at all. right?)

Yes IF you are grounding it at the switch - I did not want to assume.

I have not had mine out - does it have 2 wires - hot and ground or does it get ground from the engine as it is mounted? Could be bad grounding.
