Having problems finding info on the XJ900RK 1983 (Seca 900). What type carburetors are on that bike? Does anyone have the carb specs they would be willing to post/share? Thanks, I am a first time poster on this board.

83 Seca 900 has 35mm Mikuni's on them. Don't have any spec's on them but a few run them.

I suspect your the same wiredgeorge that's in my ebay watchlist at the moment.;)

I think I might be the same wiredgeorge... not many folks willing to own up to it other than me hehe What the heck is a "starter jet"? Is that the pilot jet aka slow jet? The Yammie parts fiche calls the pilot jet a #37.5 which is pretty standard for that diameter venturi constant velocity carb. Geesh, for such a nice looking bike there doesn't seem to be a bunch of them out there.... thanks!

Yamaha exported 1,000 XJ900RK's to the USA Market. Each of Yamaha's Top-selling Dealerships got two. Other dealerships only got one. A small reserve were shipped to Dealerships that placed "Special Orders" for a 900; after the bike made the cover on Cycle World Magazine. The 1,000 the sent-over all got sold.

I've owned two. I bought the second one as my parts bike. The exceptionally fine one, I lovingly restored, is resting comfortably in my garage while I use my 750 Max as my on-the-road daily driver.

They marketed the 900 as a "Sport-tourer". It sure is! Strap-on your gear and head-out on an adventure. The 900 will take you to a distant vacation spot, moving swiftly along with highway traffic, without needing rest ... save for the need to stop and refuel.

This bike, made twenty-four years ago, rides past new broken-down "Domestic-made" V-twins, causing the unreliable bike's owner to second-guess about spending so much money on a machine, more at home in a repair shop or loaded in the back of a pick-up truck, than breezing along the highway for hours on end.

Without heavy baggage and the suspension all nice and tight; the 900 behaves like you started the ride being launched off a flight deck! Crank-it and your out of first and second gear in a hurry. Run-it-up in third and tach acts like the indicator on a multi-meter showing continuity is good; with the needle on the speedo entering three-digit land. Real quick!

While the twins are in the hospital getting their "Who knows what's next" fixed; the 900 remains fit for duty ... only needing her oil changes, tires and some brake pads every now and then.

I'm happy having one leaning on the sidestand down in my garage. I need my Jet Pilot rush every now and again.

Should Yamaha decide to make some brand new ones, with a strong, light-alloy frame; I camp-out at the dealership to be first in line!
