One of the post for the floats was broke and jb welded together and the smaller jets are seized in carbs. There is even one jet that is 117 and the other 3 are 36.5. The main jets are all 107. Just would like to have another set to replace these.

I know they have to be from another maxim, I just would like to know if I can get them from a 1981-1984 650 or 750,or does it have to be a 1985,1986 700?

From my research, I've learned that the xj700 carbs are very particular as to parts, and very few things are interchangeable. Plus, those carbs are hard to find! Best bet is to find a motorcycle junkyard somewhere and see if you can't scrounge up what you need. Ebay has them infrequently, and as soon as a set is posted, they're gone.

Chacal (xj parts guy extraordinaire) has bits and pieces, but no full sets.

You can try Sudco for jets, but they didn't carry the 36.5. I got one of the last few remaining 36.5 jets from chacal.

    Good luck

I have the same problem and from what I understand the 650 (non-turbo) and 750's have the same hitachi carbs but I'm not one hundred percent on that and would like to know myself. On EBay the look the same although I'm sure you will need your internals as the jets I'm sure are different.

According to a float level chart supplied by Chacal, the Hitachi 33's were used only on the XJ 700, the XJ 750 E-II, and the XJ 750 RL. I think the two 750's may have been imported to Europe, but not sure. Check this link and see the chart at the end.

Keep looking on Ebay, I see them all the time.

the carbs from the 81 to 84 xj 650 and 750 will not work on the 85 86 700 because they are different model hitachi's the only way they will work is you need to change the intake manifolds also, and as far as i know they are obsolete from yamaha.same with swapping the mikuni's from the watercooled 700x to the airhead you need to change the manifolds also.

I need new manifolds anyways so I might just do that. I see them on ebay Is that the only difference.
