85 xj700 aircooled vs watercooled airbox

    I am looking at a airbox on eBay for a 85 maxim 700 airbox that is off a x model which is water cooled and I have a n model which is aircooled. I just wanted to make sure this will fit before I buy it so it's not a waste of money

    The part number for a N airbox is 1FG-14401-00-00. The part number for a XN is 1AA-14401-00-00. I don't know what, if any, difference there is. A lot of the other components are the same.

    Both the air-cooled and the water-cooled air boxes and covers are the same.

    The difference is in the rubber boots and clamps that attach to the carbs. You'll probably want new ones anyway that are specific to your air-cooled model, as the rubber gets old and brittle. I got a set from Len a while back for my X, and he probably has new ones for your bike as well.
