The gift that keeps on giving. The bike came with two sets of carbs, one set of Mikuni BS33 in poor condition with a broken float bowl post for cylinder/carb 2 and then a set of what I am assuming is the hitachi 33s (can’t find identifying markers but they look like hitachi 33s) that also need a rebuild but look great. I bought a rebuild kit for the Mikuni since they are original to the bike only to find the broken float post (I don’t have the severed piece or I’d repair it and count my blessings). My main question is if I can successfully run the Hitachi carbs on this bike or will I be wasting my time and money rebuilding them? Any recommendations? Thanks as alw

After thinking about it… what if I grind down the broken post flush, drill and tap it and thread a bolt in and cross drill the bolt to hold the float pin?

If there's enough meat to hold the bolt, then fine. That'll work.

I just recently went through this, but I had the broken piece. I have run aluminum wire through my wirefeed, keep the feed cable strait ,and at the welder put fitting close to rollers.

If you have a local welding expert you could make the lost bit and take it along to be tigwelded. I did one recently, you need a copper heatsink or the "bit" liquifies...

Answer to this is no. Those BS33's on the Maxim-X are unique to that bike.
The bodies are physically shorter as #4 has to fit over the water pump.

Update: these mikuni carbs are just in horrible condition and I don’t have the time or patience for them. Going to install some after market performance carbs like I did on my 85 air head. With that being said, if anyone wants these Mikuni BS33s or the Hitachi’s I’ve got sitting here, let me know. You can have them for free if you pay shipping.
