86 maxim 700 front end question

    I want to lower the front of my bobber maxim to match the rear but the lower clamps on the front triple tree look like carriage bolts but no nut on the other side. Can someone tell me the best way to get those out.

    What you see as the head of the carriage bolt is actually a plug, according to the schematic, with the head of the actual bolt underneath. I believe you can pry it out, be warned that you will probably ding it up in the process.

    Just put your socket on there and turn them out..

    If you want to 'lower' the forks, simply loosen the lower clamp bolts, and the upper clamp bolts and slide the forks up higher. I won't recommend doing that, however, that is the way a lot of people do it.

    NOT MY RECOMMENDATION

    ^what he said... Just loosen the upper and lower bolts. make sure you have the bike supported first. also make sure the forks are lowered an even amount before tightening.

    ...and before you ride try to compress the forks as far as you can to bottom them out. Last thing you want to happen is to go into a corner, load up the front end and find:
    1 the fender makes contact with the frame or zorst
    2 the bike bottoms out on the road before the forks do.
    Either one would be a recipe for disaster!
