So I was riding to work this morning when my motor let go. It broke the #1 rod and cratered the left side case. Pretty pi$$ed, but I think I'm lucky I still have an ankle.

At any rate, I think I'm going to part the bike out and give you guys a shot before it goes on Ebay. It was a good solid bike with ~28,000 miles and a clear title. No rust, good seat, one good sized dent in the tank. All reasonable offers accepted, buyer pays shipping. PM or e-mail me at werth2@sbcglobal.net.
    Thanks.

I forgot to mention, the front tire has less than 50 miles on it and I have a new rear tire that hasn't been mounted yet. They're Chinese Shakuras (or something like that). These are also up for grabs.

You know, this is at least the second instance I can think of where I've heard of the X throwing a rod. Is this common with this bike?

I looked on e-bay for another motor and the only one available had thrown a rod. I'm starting to see a pattern.

I have one with a thrown rod on my shop floor also (using it for parts)

I suspect this one had spark plug issues since the guts inside caps were all rusted, and the little screw-on caps on the tops of the plugs were still on (meaning the wires werent even on the plugs at all) It did make it very easy to remove the spark plug wires though :)

    Hey Twerth,

Do you (or anyone else) know if that tank would work on an '83 Maxim 750?

    Thanks

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. Mine is gone though, so I can't help you out anyway.

I'll check for you on the weekend. I happen to have a '83 XJ750 frame and a '85 XJ750X tank, so I can see if the two fit together. I think it's unlikely without some fabbing. I know the front mounts on the '83 are bigger and I think the tank's a bit longer but I'll check to make sure.

Sorry for the delay, ZX. I did finally get to the garage and test-fit the X tank on the 750 frame and it's a no-go without some modding and/or fabbing.

Anyway, you'd be better of chasing down a tank from a Maxim 650 or 750 as they're more plentiful and usually much cheaper. If you wanna change the look a little you can also go with a tank from a Seca 650 or 750. I know they fit but I think a Seca tank will leave a funny little tunnel under the tank at the front of your seat.
