87 XJ 600 Gear Problems

    New fella in da house, apologies if this has been answered somewhere else. If so please direct me.

    I am having problems going from 1st to 2nd gear. 2nd to 3rd is tight but 3rd-6th all good. All linkages are ok on the gear selector and there doesn't seem to be any reference in the manual as to this problem. I have changed the oil and the clutch in working fine.
    Has anyone else had a problem like this and if so was it easy to remedy?
