I am rebuilding an XJ400 1993 - a rare bird sold only in Japan (where they like them small) and in Israel (I don't know why!). It is very, very similar to the XJ600, though. That is where your help come in handy.
To make shure that I am purchasing the right camshaft cover gasket, would any of you please measure the overall width of you valve cover, so that I can see how it compares to mine off the 400?
My teachers here (BigFitz and Markie) told me "We know they look alike and are the same shape; if they're the same width it's almost for sure the same."
When this baby roars, beers on me (tickets to get to Israel on you! :) )

The xj 400 seems to have been sold in the Czech republic. Here is the specifications (In local language - but google translates it well). The stroke (How far the pistons move up and down is the same between 400 and 600 - 55.7mm but the bore (Width of the piston) is 47.4 0n the 400 and 58.5 mm on the 600.

If the 400 was sold in Israel, can a local Yamaha dealer help with the question?

Urk. That doesn't bode well for the cylinders being on the same centers (and the motor being the same width up top.)

Let's hope somebody can get a measurement.
