So, my bobber has been moved on and I am grabbing my 97 Bandit 1200 this weekend.

Anyone know much about them or any good forums?

I can't find anything good except maximum suzuki which doesn't allow gmail and such seems like too much work for me to have to setup a domain to mask my gmail account just to get access to a forum...

    Cheers
    Dave

don't know what year it was but the one i rode one for about a hour.
took some getting used to, the front end liked to leave the pavement and it liked a lot of body english

Yeah, keeping the front end down is sure hard on these things. and I'm sure you gotta lean into corners pretty good.

Hmmm, maybe I need to start a new forum? Who made the Bandit? Suzuki? What motor sizes do they come in?

    GSF400 with 400 cc (manufactured 1989-2000)
    GSF600N/GSF600S with 599 cc (manufactured 1993-2004)

    Re: bye bye XJ

Don't have any links to forums, but the 1200 Bandit is quite well liked. The last in a long line of (primarily) air-cooled Suzuki GSX bikes originating in the '70s. Check back a couple of issues in Rider magazine; one of the main editors did a couple of "improvement" articles on his personal 1200S Bandit using a lot of Dale Walker parts.

SnoSheriff-IIRC Suzuki brought the Bandit line to the US in 400/600/1200/(now)1250cc displacements. More similar to the Katana line than the GSXR.

Yeah, the PO did some of the mods from holeshot so she is pumping out some pretty good juice.
Got her to run and idle today. Still not mid-range but it idles and has good top end so I have seafoamed the gas and will go for a good highway boot to see if I can clean her out without dis-assembly.

    This is her

I was wondering though if one of the carb masters here could give a link or more info towards the inner workings of a Mikuni BST36SS and or more directly the air vents and hoses as my hoses are missing.

Not a forum but Dale is an expert with the Bandits. Bought a lot of stuff from him when I had my 2003 1200S.

Give these guys a try: http://forums.banditalley.net/index.php
seeing as your bike has a bunch of "Holeshot" mods done to it, it may be set up for top end riding. Depending on the jetting you will lose some of the manners a street bike is used to for the "Hooligan" fun of a well tuned bike.
If the P.O. has the paperwork on the mods done to the bike maybe contact Dale, he's about as approachable as Len (Chacal) is here when it comes to Bandit related performance.
My 2004 1200S still has a ton of grunt even though I set it up for more "Touring" than "Sport". I went up one tooth on the front and down three on the back and can still get "Air" when I pin the throttle!
This is how mine looks when I'm going on a long distance ride.

Nice...race tech forks and Hindle exhaust...gotta love it. Most underrated bike of that era. Bulletproof.
