Hey guys I'm still looking for an Igntion switch with an "A" code on the key. I have "C" and "D" code igniton switches and I'm trying to get my bike back to one key. Does not make any difference if you have the key or not since I'm going to re-key it anyway. Please check your spare parts boxes and shelves for me please. I will trade or buy straight up.

    Thanks for your help

How can you tell the difference between the keys?? I have one with a key that came off my 1100 but it is opposite of what I put on with all the other lock cylinders.

If your key doesn't have a number on it you should be able to look at the side of the ignition switch and see the number on there. It should start with an "A"

Looked at my key and it starts with a "B" I bought everything matching on ebay and just installed everything. The new Key won't even go into the cylinders of any of the original parts. All the cylinders are opposite of the key design. The key I have is shaped like this... l_ looking from the keyring end.
    The extra ign & key I have are also a "B" l

its really hard to say what keyway they are unless your a lock smith and have the assortment of key blanks to try.

so you have an ignition cylinder one key and all the rest are another key. Sounds like the samey thing I am trying to get away from. too bad I'm so far away I could try my keys to see what you really have there.

This is the "Extra" ign and key I took off my 1100. It is a "B" coded key. Not sure if it will help you out. I NOW have 1 key that works everything on my bike.

This key does fit in all the cylinders on my bike NOW but just doesn't turn. Are you sure it's an "A"

Re: Still Looking for a"A" Keyway Ignition Switch for 1100 Maxim

Yes mine is an "A" it says it on the key That fits my gas cap, helmet lock, chain and neck lock. The Ignition is a "C" and its not like an A keyway at all. I suspect that an XS 1100 has the same style ignition so that I might have to try the XS1100 Website to see if anyone there might be able to help.

The guy I bought the bike from was at the Bar one night and he lost his key. So you can imagine what happed next. In any case the replacement ignition switch was installed and its had two keys ever since.

I am really trying to get back to one key again. You see sets on e-bay and they all are missing one part or another. I have not ever seen a complete set with all 4 that match.

In your case since your key fits in all your cylinders you can pull them out and go to a locksmith and he can make them all work with one key. Your lucky to have the parts to make that happen.

I was lucky enough to find ALL matching parts with one matching key on ebay. By the time the auction was over it cost me 124.00 plus shipping. That's how bad I didn't want to be in the situation your in. I searched every day for weeks to find a matching set. I've only seen 2 complete sets in the past 6 months on ebay. I was even lucky enough to get the chain lock with the set.

Re: Still Looking for a"A" Keyway Ignition Switch for 1100 Maxim

Wow thats alot for what you got. I would have paid that much to get a good complete set. I'm sure someone will come to my aid here. I just wish the "A" lock & keys were not so rare. I've seen B (yours & one other) C's & Ds and even an "E" but not the one I'm looking for.(by the way C & D's seem to be the most common)

    My snipe hunt continues

Re: "A" Keyway Ignition Switch for 1100 Maxim **Problem Solv

Well after seems like light years I finally got the correct ignition switch. The guy on e-bay responded and I bought it. It got here today so I started in right away. I took my "A" key and it slide right in. Then it was take to the work bench and take apart and clean every thing. I was a ble to switch the tumblers around and got my key to actually work. WHHHOO HOOOO. I then removed the old switch and took that key off of my ring and now I'm a one key bike now. It works perfect.

Thanks for putting up with my parts search

Don't junk the remaining lock tumblers... They are handy to have about if you need to rekey another lock.

Don't Worry about that. I have it all sorted out in a little plastic divider box . It was really easy to change the lock over to my key. The lock smith gets at least 25.00 to do what I just did.

I should have taken pics of this operation so the forum could have seen. I'll do it to the next one.
