Picked up this book a few weeks ago on amazon.com called The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Maintenance. What else can I say but this book is great. This book goes into great detail on the inter workings of motorcycles and step by step procedures on maintenance with a color picture for each step. While the Haynes manual is great for finding the specs it leaves alot to be desired in the how to department. Like how to set carb float heights the Haynes manual say little on how this is achieved while this book goes into great detail on this subject. Same with carb jetting and so on.

Bacaiclly the book in broken down as following
1Engine design and basic theory, 2 Engine cooling and Lubrication, 3 Ignition, 4 Intake fuel and exhaust systems, 5clutch, 6transmission and primary drive, 7 Suspension, 9 wheels and tires, 10 brakes, 11 frame and steering, cleaning, setting up and storage and last of all troubleshooting

I agree CT, I picked up the same book about 5 weeks ago at Barnes and Noble bookstore. Doesn't go into specific model repairs, but does give a good general overview of all aspects of motorcycle repairs. I think this would be an excellent book for inexperienced shade tree mechanics. And a pretty good refresher for the more experienced. 8) Well worth the money for anyone's library of repair manuals.

I also picked this one up, about a week ago. For a neophyte like me, this one is absolutely essential. Before I got this book, I figured oil changes were about all I was going to be able to handle. Now I have much higher goals!

I just got that book about a week ago. It's great. I like it because it's just slightly above my head, which means that I could really learn a lot.

Just picked this book up also, very well written and easy to understand, I had hoped for some more info on carbs though, Seems well worth the $20 at amazon.com

Funny. I just bought this book this weekend! I have factory service manuals for most of my bikes and they assume a bit of knowledge that I lack. This book fills in nicely.
