82 XJ650J, 28K miles. The bike has run well in the 5 years I've had it, always plenty of power and compression, but I always wondered if I could get it to run even smoother as it had a slight bit of roughness at lower RPMs and idle. After sitting the garage over the winter, I wanted to freshen it up a bit. I pulled the plugs and poured about 1.5 oz of Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder and let it sit about a day. The oil drained down past the piston in each cylinder, so I put the plugs back in, fired it up, and went for a ride. It was noticeably smoother and after a carb re-synch it is quite a difference for the better.
It was worth the $ 3 for a 16 oz bottle of the stuff, I am quite pleased as it is my first experience with this stuff.

1.5 oz seems like a lot of oil to drain by the rings.

    I'm never without Marvel Oil.
I keep a plastic flask of MMO in the bags when I go long-distance.

Adding 2-oz. to a full tank adds Top Cylinder lube and reduces Engine Temperature a bit during sustained WOT cruising.
